atomic charge does not always render correctly

1) draw methane by selecting 'C' from symbol list and clicking
blank spot on canvas, observe CH4 renders
2) select move tool and press '+' or '-' and observe rendering as
follows (charge symbol and its coefficient should be
superscript)
increasing charge
CH3+
C2+
C3+
etc.
decreasing charge
CH3-
C2-
C3-
etc.
