cannot delete next-to-last atom in a molecule

create ethane then try to erase one atom
1) select Single bond tool from toolbar
2) click on canvas, observe that ethane is depicted
3) select Erase tool
4) click on an atom
observe that the atom is not erased,
see console errors attached
